Abstract

A Bayesian methodology is developed to construct probabilistic seismic demand models for structural system components. The methodology makes use of existing deterministic models and observational data on the structural system. The demand models are combined with previously developed capacity models for reinforced concrete bridge columns to estimate seismic fragilities. The approach accounts for all relevant uncertainties, including model error. Application to two bridge examples typical of modern California practice is presented.
