Mentees Present at the 2026 UROP Spring Research Symposium
April 22, 2026 · Michigan League, Ann Arbor, Michigan
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program’s Annual Research Symposium marks the culmination of a full academic year of research. Students share their projects, learn from one another, and celebrate the partnerships they have built with their mentors. The 2026 Spring Symposium was held on Wednesday, April 22, at the Michigan League.
All three undergraduate students I mentored through UROP during the 2025–2026 academic year presented posters on our generative-AI landslide research:
- Shivangi Bhatt Blue Ribbon Winner Evaluating Error and Uncertainty in Large Language Models for Landslide Identification
- Andrew Kagan Evaluating Generative AI to Verify and Extract U.S. Landslide Loss Data
- Dwayne Sean "SJ" Johnson AI-Powered Multi-Agent Framework for Landslide Event Extraction and Analysis
Congratulations to Shivangi, whose presentation was named a Blue Ribbon Winner at the symposium — and to Andrew and SJ for an excellent year of research. I was proud to see the projects they had developed throughout the 2025–2026 academic year come together in their posters.
