Undergraduate, Mathematics
University of Michigan

Andrew Kagan is an undergraduate studying Mathematics at the University of Michigan and a UROP student in Dr. Wei’s research group. He is interested in data-driven approaches to understanding risk and complex systems, drawing on experience in statistics, applied modeling, and Python-based data analysis. He has explored applied AI and quantitative problem-solving through internships at Aamani AI, where he worked on climate-risk–focused prompt engineering, and at the esports startup LeagiON. On campus, he is involved with the Michigan Collegiate Investment Group, where he develops his interest in quantitative finance and markets. He is broadly excited about using mathematical modeling and machine learning to support real-world decision making in science and engineering.

Undergraduate, Computer Engineering
University of Michigan

Shivangi Bhatt is a Computer Engineering student at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor with a strong interest in hardware engineering, particularly within the medical device space. This past summer, she interned at Warmilu LLC, where she performed thermal testing on 15+ infant warming packs. She is also a prototyping member of U-M M-HEAL’s Neonatal Asphyxia Project team, contributing to the development of a neonatal therapeutic cooling system. Through her UROP project with Dr. Wei, Shivangi hopes to deepen her understanding of LLMs and generative AI, and to build a database that supports a meaningful and impactful research initiative.
